Subject: Litigation Debrief – 2025-MR-444 / 2025-EV-1967 – Request for Attorney Review
Counsel,
My name is Christopher Lawrence McGoldrick. I am seeking help with legal review and potential assistance regarding two related Winnebago County matters: Case No. 2025-MR-444 and Case No. 2025-EV-1967, involving the property located at 4625 Scenic Drive, Rockford, Illinois 61109.
I want to provide a clear procedural debrief so you can quickly understand where the cases stand, what happened, and what I believe needs review.
I originally filed 2025-MR-444 as a declaratory judgment and injunctive relief action. The case involved disputes concerning my occupancy, the property, claimed authority by Cortez Jamal Houston, rent/payment issues, refusal of tender, notices, and related filings. The eviction case, 2025-EV-1967, was later filed involving the same property and overlapping possession issues.
The cases were treated as related/consolidated, with the MR matter appearing as the master matter for a period of time. The court docket reflected overlapping proceedings, and there were several unresolved motions pending, including my motion to dismiss the eviction case, motion to compel discovery, motion to deem requests to admit admitted, motion to deposit occupancy funds into the court registry, and motion for sanctions.

There were a number of us who answered your question. It depends on what you have as “evidence” and what your cause of action is. It depends on what the rules of your state say. After you submit a complaint the opposing parties will file affirmative defenses like motions to dismiss. If your complaint is not solid it will not survive.
Asking about discovery without first understanding the complaint process and the steps involved in writing and filing a complaint in the first place is putting the cart before the horse.

Good Afternoon everyone:) I am representing myself in a case after my attorney withdrew and he didn’t ask for a jury trial, even though I asked him to. Now the court says it is too late, and the trial date is May 20, 2025. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to request a jury trial at this time? Do I have to push out the trial date to do this? Any info is appreciated. (and yes, I just purchased the course and I am going through it now.)

Why do you want a jury trial ? It's a bad idea for a self representative newbie like yourself
A jury of 6 or 12 people that were not smart enough to get out of jury duty and didn't have a job. Now you want those people to decide your fate ??
Then you must write jury instructions. Have the jury fill out a questionnaire.
After all of that your at a disadvantage since you haven't read the court rules and evidence rules
