Pedestrian Struck by Commuter Bus in Middletown: Surveillance Video Reveals Disturbing Details
Coach USA is still hiring murderess bus drivers
A disturbing incident in Middletown, New Jersey, is raising concerns about pedestrian safety after a disabled man was struck by a commuter bus while crossing Route 211. Surveillance video reviewed by News 12 shows the man just minutes before and during the crash, providing chilling details of the tragic event.
The footage, captured by the Exxon gas station's security cameras, shows the victim struggling to walk as he shuffled across the busy road. According to the convenience store clerk, the man, who was a regular customer, had just purchased a lottery ticket inside the store moments before the accident.
Middletown police, who have yet to release the victim’s name, confirmed that the man was hit by a westbound commuter bus while attempting to cross Route 211. The bus remained at the scene for several hours after the incident, and News 12 was on-site when it was towed away just before noon. The crash occurred at approximately 6:15 a.m., still in the early morning hours when it was dark outside.
Though the police have not yet disclosed all the details of what happened, the surveillance video paints a clear picture. The man appears to be in the middle of the road when struck by the bus. The lack of adequate lighting and the time of day could have contributed to the difficulty in seeing him in the roadway.
Local residents have expressed their concerns about the safety of the area. “Honestly, it’s a mess,” said one local man, who wished to remain anonymous. Ana Ayala, who moved to Middletown last August, echoed the sentiment, saying, “Too much. There are always accidents here on the street.”
Although there are several crosswalks in the vicinity, the incident took place on a section of Route 211 where there is no designated crossing area. “For that to be happening like that, especially to an old man, it’s very devastating,” said Maurico Zeferino, a Middletown resident.
This tragic accident has sparked renewed concerns about pedestrian safety in the area, particularly for those with mobility challenges. As the investigation continues, many are left wondering what can be done to prevent similar accidents in the future, especially in areas where pedestrians are at higher risk.
