Tenafly woman, 72, struck and killed by NJ Transit bus

A 72-year-old Tenafly woman died Sunday after being hit by an NJ Transit bus, police said.

The unidentified woman was struck while crossing Highwood Avenue, just north of Hillside Avenue, a few minutes before 4 p.m. Sunday.

The woman was found lying in the roadway with critical injuries. Paramedics transported her to Hackensack Meridian University Health Center, where she was later pronounced dead, police said.

Police said the bus driver, a 70-year-old man from Englewood, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

No criminal violations are currently suspected and no one had been issued a summons for the collision as of Monday night, said Capt. Michael deMoncada of the Tenafly police.

"We are interviewing witnesses and looking for anyone with surveillance video of the area before our team draws any conclusions," deMoncada said.

It’s time for action. A class action lawsuit needs to be filed against NJ Transit on behalf of all living victims and the families of those who have lost their lives due to reckless bus drivers. These drivers must be held accountable—this is not just negligence; these are murders on wheels . NJ Transit has ...
