Driver injured after being struck by NJ Transit train in North Jersey, officials say

A woman was injured Tuesday evening after her car was struck by an NJ Transit train in Garfield, officials said.

The driver, a woman in her 60s, went under the railroad crossing gate at Outwater Lane just before 5:30 p.m. and was hit by an out-of-service train with no customers, an NJ Transit spokeswoman and Garfield Police Capt. Richard Uram told NJ Advance Media.

The unidentified woman was treated for minor injuries at the scene and refused further medical attention, NJ Transit Spokeswoman Kate Thompson said. Uram added that the gate was also damaged.
